The Ellington Kid
Representations Nathan is presented as a joker, 'jack-the-lad' character, perhaps from the east end of London. He's clearly somewhat streetwise as he hears the 'rumours' about The Ellington Kid (TEK). There is also the character of Beefy who is presented as having some similarities with Nathan as they are mates, however, he comes across as gullible. He acts as a way for the narrative to progress as he asks questions to Nathan about TEK. This leads on to TEK himself, who is presented as a victim and vulnerable to violence and the harsh life living in London's steets. In most shots he's seen fighting for his life and has an expression of vulnerability and almost childlike innocence. He is presented in such a way that the viewer feels sorry for him. The Gang, who stab TEK, are presented to be the 'villains' as well as being foolish (when they bicker after stabbing TEK).
